Guerin hoping to build off milestone

NY Islanders (11-21-3) at Buffalo (16-14-5), 7:00 pm EST

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- Captain Bill Guerin's milestone

performance and goaltender Rick DiPietro's return helped the New

York Islanders end a losing streak.

The Islanders will look to build off that momentum and pick up

their first road win since November 24, when they visit the

Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

Guerin scored twice to record his 400th career goal as New York

snapped a 10-game losing skid Friday with a 4-1 victory over the

Toronto Maple Leafs. The 38-year-old Guerin becomes the eighth

American-born player and 79th overall to reach the plateau.

"Those goals came at a good time," said Guerin, who has 13 goals

and 11 assists in 35 games this season. "Everybody kept a good

attitude and a good work ethic (during the streak).

"It means I've been able to stick around in this league for

quite some time now and had some success at doing it."

The Islanders also received a boost from the return of DiPietro,

who - after a two-month absence - stopped 28 shots. He also had

an assist.

The Sabres are hoping to end a three-game losing streak after

suffering a 3-2 setback to the Washington Capitals on Friday.

Thomas Vanek netted his team-leading 25th goal for Buffalo,

which has posted a 5-3-2 record over its previous 10 contests.

Vanek is second to Philadelphia's Jeff Carter for the league

lead in goals.
