Hard-hitting Flames defenceman Dion Phaneuf joins Team Canada

The hard-hitting Calgary Flames blue-liner will soften the blow Canada suffered when defenceman Shea Weber was suspended for three games for a hit on a German player Saturday. Weber has two games left in his suspension.

Phaneuf, 22, had 17 goals and 33 assists in 79 games against the Flames this year, his second full NHL season. He collected 49 points in his rookie year.

The six-foot-three, 213-pounder won a gold medal with Canada at the 2005 world junior hockey championship.
