Honor Burnaby Joe at the Olympics

Jordan Philbert, Sherbrooke, Que.

It will be a fairly strange year watching hockey on television.

I won't be able to hear all the wicked wristers that Joe Sakic has unleashed for the past 20 years. It'll be the first year that I won't be able to see Sakic highlights on SportsCentre when I get up in the morning. It'll be the first time I don't see Sakic on the Olympic roster when the Olympics roll into Vancouver in about six months time.

We know he is going to have his jersey retired by the Avs at the beginning of the year. But Canada should show how much 'Burnaby Joe' means to us as a nation and kick off the Olympic tournament with Sakic taking part in a ceremonial puck drop.

It would mean a lot to the city of Vancouver where he grew up not too far from there, but as a nation it would be a way for us to say thank you to one of the all-time greatest Canadian hockey players ever to play the game.
