Hurricanes forward Zach Boychuk undergoes successful wrist surgery
RALEIGH, N.C. - Carolina Hurricanes forward Zach Boychuk underwent successful surgery on his left wrist, the club announced Tuesday.
Dr. George Edwards, who operated on Rod Brind'Amour's hand during the 2002-03 season, performed the procedure, repairing a fracture in Boychuk's wrist, and estimates a recovery time at about three months.
Selected by the Hurricanes in the first round, 14th overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Boychuk, 18, finished the 2007-08 WHL regular season ranked second among Lethbridge skaters with 72 points, tied for second with 33 goals and led the team with a plus-26 plus/minus rating.
The Calgary native played in all seven of Team Canada's games en route to its fourth consecutive gold medal at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championships.
