Hurricanes hope to snap skid vs. Maple Leafs

Carolina (21-20-5) at Toronto (17-21-7), 7:30 pm EST

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Carolina Hurricanes will attempt to end

a season-worst five-game losing streak when they host the

Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.

The Hurricanes are coming off a 3-1 setback to the Buffalo

Sabres on Saturday. Ray Whitney scored the lone goal for the

Hurricanes, who have not lost six contests in a row in nearly

six years.

Carolina, which has four road losses over its slide, is now in

danger of losing six straight games in regulation for the first

time since March 26-April 6, 2003.

During this stretch, which included a 6-4 loss to the Maple

Leafs on Thursday, the Hurricanes have been outscored by a 23-9

margin.

Toronto is looking to beat a team other than Carolina for the

first time since January 3, posting a 1-4-1 record over that

stretch. The Maple Leafs suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to the

Atlanta Thrashers on Friday.

Lee Stempniak, Dominic Moore and Niklas Hagman scored for

Toronto, which squandered a three-goal lead in that one.
