Hurricanes sign left-wing Matt Murley to one-year deal Monday

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Carolina Hurricanes signed left-wing Matt Murley to a one-year contract Monday.

Assistant general manager Ron Francis said the deal will pay Murley US$500,000 at the NHL level or $100,000 if he is sent to the minors for the 2008-09 season. He has a minimum guaranteed total salary of $125,000.

The 28-year-old Murley split last season between Phoenix and the Coyotes' minor league affiliate in San Antonio, Texas. He had one assist in three games on the NHL level, and led all Rampage skaters in goals (28), assists (41) and points (62) in 76 AHL games.
