IIHF Referee Recovering After Severe Wrist Injury
IIHF official Lukas Kohlmuller is recovering from a severe wrist laceration suffered during the U-18 World Championship on Thursday in Germany.
Kohlmuller's wrist was cut by a skate blade during the first period of a quarterfinal game between USA and Latvia. Kohlmuller immediately skated off the ice and was rushed to a local hospital, where surgery took place.
“I had a chance to talk briefly with Lukas this morning and I am happy to report that he is in good spirits and has mobility in his hands and fingers,” Local Organizing Committee President Franz Reindl said in an IIHF statement.
The remaining three minutes of the first period was paused and resumed prior to the second period after the ice was flooded to clean the blood.
