Islanders finish dreadful month vs. Panthers

Florida (16-15-5) at NY Islanders (11-22-4), 2:00 pm EST

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- The New York Islanders are

probably just happy to see December come to a close.

The Islanders conclude one of the worst months in the

franchise's history Wednesday when they host the Florida

Panthers, who are on a three-game losing streak.

New York has posted a 1-10-2 record during December. The club

did end its 10-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the

Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday in the return of goaltender Rick

DiPietro.

However, the franchise netminder suffered a groin injury in the

loss and his status is day-to-day.

Mike Comrie had a goal and an assist Monday as the Islanders

suffered a 5-4 setback to the rival New York Rangers.

The Panthers, who are opening a four-game road trip, are

struggling as well. Michael Frolik and David Booth scored, but

Florida dropped a 5-2 decision to the Montreal Canadiens on

Monday.

In their only other meeting this season, the Panthers recorded a

2-0 triumph over the Islanders. Tomas Vokoun registered a

31-save shutout - the first of three this season.
