The New York Islanders have signed defenseman Noah Dobson to a three-year contract extension as part of the team's flurry of deals on Monday.

The New York Islanders have finally started to take care of their off-season moves as the calendar nearly flips past August.

After spending the bulk of the summer to this point being completely inactive on the free agent market, the Islanders finally got in on the action by announcing three important transactions on Monday morning, one of which seeing the club agree to terms with defenseman Noah Dobson on a three-year contract extension.

The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

One of the quieter breakout players from the 2021-22 season, Dobson has flourished into a terrific young defenseman throughout his short time in the NHL to date, exploding for 13 goals and 51 points last season while logging nearly 22 minutes in nightly ice time as a 22-year-old -- a campaign which, in the process, put him in line for the serious raise he assuredly agreed to today.

Add context into the equation, and Dobson's performance in 2021-22 becomes all the more impressive.

To produce such gaudy offensive totals as a defenseman while playing in the confines of an Islanders system designed specifically to neutralize opposing offense in lieu of fostering any of their own, Dobson showed just how deadly he can be even when being prevented from running wild, and could potentially be in for an even more pronounced breakout now that Barry Trotz is no longer behind the bench.

With the Islanders declining to disclose the financial details of Dobson's extension, it's difficult to analyze how much of a bargain his new price tag might be. But at just three years in length, this new contract serves as a bridge deal for the budding star, putting Dobson in a position to seriously cash in when it expires.
