The Pittsburgh Penguins have inked defenseman Jan Rutta to a three-year deal worth $2.75-million AAV.

Rutta has 238 games to his credit, mostly with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He started his career with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he had a career-high 20 points as a rookie in 2017-18.

Since then, Rutta found himself bouncing around the Lightning lineup, often finding himself alongside Victor Hedman. At 31, don't expect Rutta to take his game to a much higher level, especially when he doesn't have Hedman to work with, but you can do much worse than a stay-at-home, safe defender.
