Joe Thornton scores in OT for Sharks in 4-3 win over Coyotes

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Joe Thornton scored with 3:03 into overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 4-3 pre-season victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday night.

Devin Setoguchi of the Sharks tied the game midway through the third period, just over a minute after Garth Murray had given the Coyotes a 3-2 lead. Patrick Marleau and Tomas Plihal scored for the Sharks (2-3), who snapped a two-game losing streak. Alex Bourret and Olli Jokinen scored for the Coyotes (1-5).

Jokinen, the Coyotes' major off-season acquisition, has been a spark to an offence that ranked 21st in the NHL last season. He was on the ice for all three of Peter Mueller's goals in Phoenix's 5-1 win over the Sharks on Monday night.

In a span of 50 minutes, 40 seconds over two games against the Sharks, Jokinen helped the Coyotes score seven straight goals.

Rookie Mikkel Boedker, who had two goals for San Jose on Monday night, had two assists Tuesday.

Marleau scored his second goal in three games for the Sharks. Marleau and Thornton had two assists each and Jeremy Roenick recorded his first point of the pre-season.
