The Hockey News

Status: Washington Capitals right winger.

DOB: April. 3, 1983 In: Anchorage, Alaska

Ht: 6-foot-1 Wt: 191 pounds

First Hockey Memory: "I think just skating on an outdoor rink - I grew up in Alaska - with my dad and family, mom and grandpa. We'd go out there a lot and spend hours out there."

Hockey Inspirations: "Obviously my family. Every male in my family grew up playing hockey, even some of the females picked it up later in life, just trying to have fun. So my biggest inspiration is definitely my family."

Last Book Read: "Decision Points. George Bush."

Current Car: "Ford F150."

Greatest Sports Moment: "Probably the first game in the NHL."

Most Painful Moment: "Losses piling up (last season with Toronto) wasn't the best, but I don't know, nothing too horrible stands out right now."

Favorite Uniforms: "I like Toronto’s and Detroit's. I like the simple, two-color teams."

Nicknames: "Obviously, Crabber, Crabby and Shacky - from Joe's Crab Shack."

Embarrassing Hockey Memory: "When I was on the U.S. Team when I was young, when I was back in high school, we were playing against Michigan and late in the game we were down a goal and I was getting a one-timer pass in the slot. And, yeah, I was thinking I was just gonna one-time it straight through the net because I was trying to shoot as hard as I can. And I whiffed and fell down (smiles)."

First Famous Hockey Player You Met Or Encountered:
"Guy Lafleur. He was at a legends game in Alaska. Went down to the locker room and met him."

Funniest Players Encountered: "Eric Boulton. Kevin Dahl in the minors. Dale Mitchell."

Closest NHL Friends: "Boy, I've got a lot of those. I've got a different group from every team. I'm still close to my college buddies, all of them, that I was in the same class with."

Fiercest Competitors Encountered: "A lot of defensemen are pretty fierce competitors. Crosby is probably - I know that's an obvious answer, but he's pretty competitive. He doesn't like it when you try to get under his skin. He doesn't like it when you get the best of him, that's for sure."

Most Memorable Goal: "That would have to be against Buffalo two years ago - short-handed game-winner."

Strangest Game: "Nothing, other than big comebacks when I was in college. To go to the Frozen Four, we came back from down three goals late in the game against Michigan and went to the Frozen Four."

Favorite Sport Outside Hockey: "It's gotta be golf."

Favorite Players To Watch: "I'd say Datsyuk is the most fun to watch. Stamkos, obviously."

Funny Hockey Memory: "In college it was a big tournament game against Minnesota, we were doing the starting lineups. And my line was starting. My center, Trevor Frischmon, he skates out to the blueline as hard as he can when they introduce the starting lineup. Right when he went to stop at the blueline, he took a toe pick and slid all the way into the other team's line."

Personality Qualities Most Admired: "Just being happy and always in a good mood. And kind, giving people."
