Kevin Hayes scores on a baseball bunt in Rangers’ final game
Kevin Hayes showed off his incredible hand-eye coordination in the Rangers’ win over Washington on Saturday, batting the puck out of the air to score with an incredible backhand on Braden Holtby.
The initial shot on goal came from Ryan McDonagh at the point, with Hayes tied up by Matt Niskanen in front of the net. Niskanen got his stick on the shot and deflected it into the air, setting up Hayes for the amazing tap-in.
It was Hayes’s 17th goal of the season and first of two points in the game. He also assisted on Derick Brassard’s goal to make it 2-0 Rangers later in the first.
Hayes finished his rookie season with a solid 17 goals and 45 points, to go with a plus-15 rating and 22 penalty minutes. The 22-year-old signed with the Rangers as a free agent last summer after turning pro out of Boston College.
He was originally drafted 24th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.
