The NHL's All-Star Skills Competition may boast props and silliness, but this move by Nikita Gusev at the KHL's Skills Competition is simply downright ridiculous.
Last night saw Ottawa Senators rookie Mike Hoffman try, on more than one occasion, to scoop the puck up lacrosse-style to score a goal. But Gusev does that one better. Or two better even, depending on who you ask. Take a look at this and try to wrap your head around how the 22-year-old Russian does this so effortlessly.
Is there any doubt that this move would have put him in the conversation to win the NHL's Breakaway Challenge? Not only is the move insane, he does it in one try and he makes sure to fit the celebration in there. No props needed for Gusev.
In 45 games with Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk this season, Gusev has 18 goals and 28 points. He was a seventh-round pick, 202nd overall, by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2012. While I'm not quite sure which areas of Gusev's game need work, I think it's safe to say he's got a nice set of hands.
