PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin sat out the pre-game skate due to a nagging knee injury and won't play Monday night against New Jersey.

Coach Dan Bylsma said the injury is the type that needs rest in order to properly heal.

Malkin, injured Thursday night against Atlanta, also sat out Pittsburgh's 7-2 victory at Columbus on Saturday night.

The former NHL scoring champion has eight goals and 22 points in 26 games.
