There have been some bizarre crossovers between music and hockey, but this video from South Korean girl group DIA takes the cake. In the live performance of the band’s first single, which is called Somehow, the seven-member girl group takes the stage wearing…New York Rangers jerseys? Yes, for some reason the entire group is wearing Rangers jerseys, with six of the members wearing No. 20 Chris Kreider jerseys and one of the girls rocking a No. 61 Rick Nash jersey. Seriously. Take a look:
The rough translations of the song online make it seem as though it’s a love song, but there’s no references to New York, the Rangers, Kreider or Nash, so it’s impossible to tell what the tie-ins are there. The thing is, though, this wasn’t a one-off use of the Kreider and Nash jerseys. While they used the threads in the live performance, the K-Pop act also donned the Rangers threads for the video’s official release. (https://youtu.be/tzQv6TgwuFQ?t=1m29s) There’s either a Rangers fan in the group or someone behind the scenes has an affection for the Blueshirts. Either way, it’s a strange connection between two things — hockey and Korean pop music — we never would have expected to cross paths. While looking to see if Kreider had made reference to the song at all — he hasn’t, at least not publically — we stumbled across something even better: Kreider has changed his Twitter bio to include a link to DIA’s live performance of the song.
And here's the link, per Kreider's bio:
