Kostopoulos receives automatic one-game suspension for late-game instigator

MONTREAL - Forward Tom Kostopoulos of the Montreal Canadiens was suspended one game by the NHL and was not in the lineup for Monday night's game with the Ottawa Senators.

Kostopoulos received the automatic suspension as a result of his late-game instigator penalty when he went after Boston Bruins defenceman Mark Stuart during Saturday's 7-4 win by the Habs.

The league also fined head coach Guy Carbonneau US$10,000, also automatic when a player gets an instigator penalty in the last five minutes of a game.
