The Grand Rapids Griffins have re-signed goaltender Jan Bednar to a one-year extension, the team announced Monday.
A 2020 fourth-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings, Bednar spent this past season playing for the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL where he posted a 22-7-2 regular season record to go along with a 2.66 GAA and a .901 SV% in 36 appearances.
Bednar also suited up for five playoff games where he had a 4-1 record, a 2.37 GAA and a .917 SV%.
Prior to joining the Walleye, Bednar played parts of three seasons with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan (QMJHL), collecting a 38-24-5 record to go along with a 3.12 GAA and a .903 SV%.
Although Bednar spent the entirety of this season in the ECHL, he figures to crack the Griffins lineup next season. With a strong possibility of splitting time with Sebastian Cossa, the Griffins would be running one of the youngest duos in the AHL between the pipes.
