There were plenty of great performances around the ice for Utah Hockey Club in their first prospect camp.
While Danil But's four-goal outing at the scrimmage at Delta Center stole the show, former 2023 third-round pick Jonathan Castagna also made a name for himself.
The Toronto native got his start with the Georgetown Raiders in 2021-22, and then bolted for the Cornell Big Red this past season, and posted 25 points in 35 total games in Ithaca.
Standing at 6-foot-1, 183 pounds, Castagna showed off why he was so prolific on offence this past season, posting a couple of goals and an assist in Friday's scrimmage, while also being stout defensively.
Before going to Cornell, Castagna was a star at St. Andrew's College in Toronto, posting 20 points in 35 games his first year, and then broke out for 72 points in 50 games in 2022-23.
His prospect camp showing earned him the Excellence Award from player development director Lee Stempniak, given to the prospect who was "coachable, showed attention to detail, growth from last year, and strong performance testing."
The Utah prospect will be a name to watch in coming weeks leading up to training camp; it'll be a tough choice to either keep him at Cornell or bring him up at least to the AHL.
This story was updated to reflect Castagna being given Excellence Award honors at prospect camp.
