When the Montreal Canadiens return to the Bell Centre for the start of the 2024-25 season, fans will notice a significant change as a new scoreboard will be hanging from the rafters.
On May 7th, Jean-Pierre Quesnel, Technical Director, Broadcast, for the Montreal Canadiens shared on his X account, a photo of the scoreboard that was installed prior to the 2008-09 season lowered to the ground of the arena.
“For those that love and follow the CH… it’s the end of an era and the beginning of another one at the Bell Centre. Nice surprise in September,” Quesnel wrote on the post that has been deleted that accompanied the photo.

The rink’s new equipment will be upgraded to an ultra high definition (UHD) scoreboard by Applied Electronics. The Canadiens have partnered with the company since 2021 and according to Applied Electronics website, the Bell Centre will become the most advanced IP-based infrastructure arena in North America following the installation.
“The scoreboard will be presented in September for our games. It will be an upgrade. The size is similar, a little bigger, but it’s the quality of the screen that will improve,” Geoff Molson, president and chief executive office of the Montreal told TVA Sports in an interview that aired on April 14th.
The Bell Centre, formerly known as the Molson Centre, opened its doors on March 16th, 1996.
