Lawyers for Vancouver Canucks owner object to legal tactics of former partners

Howard Shapray complained to a judge today that the opening statement by lawyers for the two suing his client delivered an inflammatory and prejudicial opening statement when they accused the defendants of dishonesty.

Shapray is also angry lawyers for Ryan Beedie and Tom Gaglardi handed out copies of their opening statement to the media, calling it utterly improper.

Justice Katherine Wedge ruled later that the very experienced defence lawyers had an opportunity to object at the time, but failed to do so.

Wedge said she'll rule later on the propriety of lawyers handing out the opening statement to media.

Beedie and Gaglardi allege Aquilini used inside information he gained while posing as their partner to cut them out of a deal and scoop the team from them.
