Less power to the fans

All-star games are supposed to be fun and I think the NHL accomplished that this year, but I think they should have stuck with the judge panel for the shootout competition instead of having fans text their vote in.

This was the most anticipated skills event and I think it got turned into a popularity contest instead. Ryan Getzlaf clearly had the best move, but because Alex Ovechkin is more of a fan favorite, Getzlaf didn't win.

Last year, Ovechkin did have the best moves and the judge panel selected correctly, but this year because of the fact Ovie is the fan favorite, he won.

Next year I think the NHL should consider going back to the judge panel.
