Lightning get series-winning goal in Game 7 against Detroit from an unlikely source: defenseman Braydon Coburn

The Tampa Bay Lightning hadn't received much offense from some bigger-name players in their first-round series against Detroit, and that pattern continued Wednesday in Game 7: the Bolts got the game-and-series-winning goal against the Wings from an unlikely source – stay-at-home defenseman Braydon Coburn.

The Tampa Bay Lightning made it to Game 7 of their first-round series against Detroit without receiving a single goal from superstar center Steven Stamkos – and in keeping with that pattern, the Bolts got the series-winner in the deciding game Wednesday from an unlikely source: stay-at-home defenseman Braydon Coburn, who fired a one-timer past Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek for the only goal the home team would need to win.

Coburn's goal came at the 3:58 mark of the third period, when teammate Ryan Callahan found him with a slick pass he promptly wired past Mrazek:

The 30-year-old Coburn, acquired this season from Philadelphia for Radko Gudas and a first-and-third-round draft pick, had only scored two goals in the post-season prior to Wednesday, and his last playoff goal came in 2011. He's signed through next season before being eligible for unrestricted free agency, and if he can continue contributing in key situations, Bolts GM Steve Yzerman will more than likely happily retain his services.
