Like goals? Watch the Capitals net two beauties in 59 seconds
Generally speaking, when a team scores a pair of goals in under a minute there’s usually some shoddy goaltending or a crazy bounce to thank. That was not the case for the Washington Capitals during Tuesday night’s tilt with the Los Angeles Kings, as the Capitals scored a pair of gorgeous goals in 59 seconds.
The two-goal outburst began with a broken play behind the Kings net when a puck came spitting out from the boards during a mix-up between Los Angeles netminder Jonathan Quick and defenseman Robyn Regehr. The puck landed right on the stick of Alex Ovechkin, who quickly slid it cross-ice to Marcus Johansson, who threw it back the other way to Nicklas Backstrom. The 27-year-old center made no mistake.

After a slapshot by Capitals winger Joel Ward broke the stick of Kings defenseman Matt Greene, the puck ended up on the stick of Kings blueliner Brayden McNabb. As McNabb attempted to shovel the puck out of the Kings’ zone, Ward knocked the puck off his stick and onto the tape of Capitals winger Fehr. With a partial breakaway, Fehr opened up his stance, faked a quick forehand shot and then slid the puck to his backhand, roofing it behind Quick.
The goals, the Capitals third and fourth of the outing, would be the final goals as the game as Washington netminder Braden Holtby skated away with a 27-save shutout.
