Maple Leafs aiming for rare win streak

New Jersey (16-9-2) at Toronto (11-12-6) 7:00 p.m. EST

TORONTO (Ticker) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a hard time

stringing together wins this season. A visit from the New

Jersey Devils may not help end that trend.

The Maple Leafs try to win three games in a row for the first

time this season when they face the Devils on Tuesday.

Defenseman Ian White snapped a tie with less than eight minutes

remaining in the third period to lift Toronto to a 2-1 victory

over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.

Jeremy Williams also scored and Vesa Toskala made 24 saves for

the Maple Leafs, who won consecutive contests for just the

fourth time this season. Toronto has not posted three straight

victories since March.

New Jersey, which is 9-2-0 since November 15 despite the absence

of star goaltender Martin Brodeur, had a four-game win streak

snapped during a 4-2 loss to the Sabres on Saturday.

Patrik Elias scored for the third straight game and has nine

goals and 11 assists over his last 12 contests.

However, Elias, who ranks second on the Devils with 13 tallies,

has struggled against the Maple Leafs, finding the back of the

net twice in his last 16 games vs. Toronto.
