Maple Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson returns to Toronto, sees cardiac specialist
TORONTO - Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson returned to Toronto on Wednesday and was scheduled to see a cardiac specialist.
Gustavsson was taken to hospital with an elevated heart rate following the first period of Toronto's 3-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.
It was labelled a precautionary move because the Swedish rookie needed to have minor heart surgery during training camp following a similar incident.
"We're just being ultra-cautious," said Leafs GM Brian Burke.
Gustavsson was examined at a Montreal hospital on Tuesday night and released. After returning to Toronto on Wednesday, he was scheduled to see a cardiac specialist.
The NHL team said it would update his condition on Thursday.
