Maple Leafs Sign Tyler Bertuzzi to One-Year Contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs made a splash, signing forward Tyler Bertuzzi to a one-year contract.

One of the top free agents is officially off the market.

The Toronto Maple Leafs beefed up their forward corps on Sunday, agreeing to terms with forward Tyler Bertuzzi on a one-year contract worth $5.5 million.

The deal gives Bertuzzi an opportunity to win a Stanley Cup this season by riding shotgun with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner while also allowing him the chance to cash in on the open market once again when the salary cap is expected to rise significantly.

The Sudbury, Ont., native has dealt with injuries his whole career, including being limited to 50 games this past season. Bertuzzi still did still manage to put up 30 points in that time between the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins, however, finishing with eight goals and 22 assists, which was a step down from the previous season that saw him put up 62 points in 68 games.

The Red Wings drafted Bertuzzi 58th overall in 2013, and since then, he's potted 92 goals and 218 points in 326 career games. All of Bertuzzi's career playoff games came in 2022-23 with the Bruins, where he stood out with 10 points in seven games.
