McLellan returns to Detroit again, hoping for better results

San Jose (41-8-9) at Detroit (39-13-8), 7:30 pm EST

DETROIT (Ticker) -- San Jose Sharks coach Todd McLellan hopes

his second trip to Joe Louis Arena goes better than his first.

McLellan and the Sharks will seek their fifth consecutive

victory Wednesday, when they visit the Detroit Red Wings in a

battle of the top teams in the Western Conference.

An assistant with the Red Wings' Stanley Cup winning team last

season, McLellan watched his club get thoroughly embarrassed

after collecting his championship ring on December 18. Pavel

Datsyuk scored two goals and set up two others as Detroit

cruised to a 6-0 rout of San Jose.

The Sharks, who hold a five-point edge on the Red Wings in the

West, have won both meetings between these clubs in San Jose

this season.

Evgeni Nabokov made 29 saves to record his 45th career shutout

and Devin Setoguchi snapped a scoreless tie midway through the

third period, leading the Sharks to a 1-0 triumph over the

Dallas Stars on Monday.

The Red Wings are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on

Saturday. Rookie Ville Leino recorded a goal and an assist in

that one.

NHL Off-Season Outlook: Anaheim Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks have a decent core, but there's lots of tinkering left on the horizon. They need improvement from within, as well as a boost from some new faces, if they’re going to move up the Pacific standings.
