Minnesota Wild re-sign goalie Niklas Backstrom to multiyear contract

The 29-year-old has signed a multi-year contract with the NHL team. Backstrom tied a Wild franchise record last season by registering five shutouts in just 41 games.

He finished the year with a 23-8-6 record and led the entire league with a 1.97 goals-against average.

Backstrom was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
