Montreal Canadiens sign defenceman Alexandre Picard to one-year deal

MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens signed defenceman Alexandre Picard to a one-year, two-way deal Saturday.

The 25-year-old scored four goals and added 11 assists in 54 games with Ottawa and Carolina last season.

Picard was drafted 85th overall in 2003 by Philadelphia.

The six-foot-three, 215-pound blue-liner from Gatineau, Que., has 16 goals and 41 assists over five seasons in the NHL.
