According to La Presse, the Montreal Canadiens will name Brian Gionta as team captain for the 2010-11 season.
The Canadiens have been without a captain since Saku Koivu signed with the Anaheim Ducks last summer.
Gionta, who signed a five-year deal worth $25-million last summer, scored 28 goals and 46 points in 61 games for Montreal in 2009-10. He would become the 28th captain in team history.
