Naslund scores and Luongo blanks Jackets as Canucks win 1-0

Naslund gave the Canucks the lead with his 12th goal of the season in the second period. He took Henrik Sedin's pass at the Blue Jackets blue-line and beat two defenders, then goalie Pascal Leclaire on the backhand for his fourth goal in six games.

Luongo was solid for the Canucks, especially after they took the lead, and earned his second shutout in a Vancouver uniform and the 29th of his career.

Vancouver needed his effort as the goal-starved Canucks have scored two or fewer goals in 12 of their last 14 games

Vancouver was back to .500 at 12-12-1 with the win against the Blue Jackets, who are last overall with only 14 points from 23 games.

Columbus lost for the ninth time in 10 starts to fall to 6-15-2 and 1-2-0 under new coach Ken Hitchcock.

Luongo was called upon to preserve the lead in the second period by swiping a rolling the puck shot by Sergei Fedorov away from the goal line with his blocker hand.

The play was subject to a lengthy review and came after Luongo was quick with the glove to snare a shot by Alexander Svitov.

Naslund's goal came after a first period in which the Canucks controlled play and outshot the Blue Jackets 14-6 despite taking four consecutive penalties.

Leclaire twice looked for the puck behind him but Vancouver had failed to finish. He got a piece of a Mattias Ohlund shot from the slot and twice beat Matt Cook on two-on-one break-ins. On the second chance, the netminder gave up a big rebound on Trevor Linden's shot and dived to smother Cooke's effort.

Notes: Slotback Geroy Simon, the Grey Cup and several B.C. Lions players were introduced before the game ... Anson Carter, who led the Canucks with 33 goals last season, was booed when he was involved in the play for Columbus ... it was the first of five consecutive road games for the Blue Jackets who visit Calgary on Friday and Edmonton on Saturday ... Vancouver is also at home for seven of its next eight games ... Marc Chouinard and Tommi Santala were Vancouver's healthy scratches.
