New Ducks D Andy Sutton out 6-8 weeks to recover from surgery on broken thumb

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Anaheim Ducks defenceman Andy Sutton will be out six to eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his broken right thumb.

Sutton had surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles.

The veteran defenceman was hurt in his first game with Anaheim while fighting Detroit's Ruslan Salei.

The Ducks signed Sutton as a free agent in the off-season, expecting him to play a major role on their revamped defence.

Fellow newcomer Toni Lydman missed all of training camp and hasn't played yet after a strange bout of double vision possibly related to migraine headaches.

Anaheim signed free-agent defenceman Andreas Lilja on Monday.

Anaheim was outscored 13-2 during three season-opening road losses. The Ducks' home opener is Wednesday against Vancouver.
