Montreal Victoire superstar Marie-Philip Poulin, who was named a PWHL player of the week, crossed the line with a charging infraction and should sit out a game, says Ken Campbell.

    Marie-Philip Poulin

There is no disputing the fact that Marie-Philip Poulin is the best player in women's hockey. She scores a lot, and more importantly, she has a gift of being able to produce when big games are on the line.

That same fire and determination that allows the Montreal Victoire superstar to do that prompted her to go over the line Sunday afternoon when she steamrolled Jade Downie-Landry of the New York Sirens in a PWHL game. Poulin received a well-deserved five-minute major for charging, a penalty that should be accompanied by a suspension.

Just two weeks ago, we saw the NHL tell Connor McDavid to cool his heels for three games for a vicious cross-check on Conor Garland of the Vancouver Canucks.

Keeping in mind that the PWHL schedule is shorter and the equivalent of a three-game ban in the NHL is one game in the PWHL, the league might want to have Poulin watch the next Victoire game, Feb. 15 at home to the Sirens, from the press box.
