Alex Galchenyuk has announced that he is entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program on Tuesday, five days after the Arizona Coyotes terminated his contract following an arrest for private property hit and run, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, resisting arrest, and threatening or intimidating on July 9. 

Galchenyuk made the announcement via a post on social media, wherein he also apologized to the Coyotes organization and the members of the Scottsdale Police Department, whom he allegedly threatened during the arrest. 

The allegations and charges have not been proven in court.

According to ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, new NHLPA head Marty Walsh has yet to decide if the players association will file an official grievance against the Coyotes on behalf of Galchenyuk for terminating his contract. 

Galchenyuk spent 11 games with the Colorado Avalanche last season, going pointless while registering four penalty minutes. Playing for the Avalanche's AHL affiliate, Galchenyuk fared much better, finishing with 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points in 42 games.

This was set to be his third stint with the Coyotes after spending the 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons with the organization.
