VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The Chicago Blackhawks
have been clicking on all cylinders and look to reach their
longest winning streak in almost 28 years.
Armed with plenty of momentum, the Blackhawks seek their seventh
straight victory when they visit the Vancouver Canucks on
Saturday.
Chicago last won seven in a row from January 4-21, 1981, when
its run reached eight contests. The Blackhawks have enjoyed
seven six-game winning streaks since winning eight straight.
With this contest, Chicago completes a three-game swing through
western Canada. It defeated Calgary, 3-2, in overtime on
Friday, three days after cruising to a 9-2 victory over
Edmonton.
Winners of two straight, the Canucks have been the center of
attention around the hockey world this week for signing coveted
free agent center Mats Sundin to a one-year contract.
The former Toronto Maple Leafs captain is expected to arrive in
Vancouver on December 27. He has been skating with a
professional team in Sweden, and could be ready to play early
next month.
Vancouver, which will likely be without starting netminder
Roberto Luongo for the 12th straight contest, has scored nine
goals in its current winning streak.
