A top prospect for the Columbus Blue Jackets has been suspended five games by the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads for violating the team and league's code of conduct.
Halifax Regional Police charged Jordan Dumais with driving under the influence on March 1, according to Global News. The 19-year-old was drafted 96th overall by the Blue Jackets in 2022.
“Dumais, who is back healthy, will miss the remainder of the regular season and the first game of the playoffs,” read a statement released by the Mooseheads. “Since this was an off-ice infraction, the matter was handled internally while the team remained in constant communication with the league.”
Dumais’ suspension began Thursday night for the Mooseheads' game against the Charlottetown Islanders.
Dumais is scheduled to face charges of operating a conveyance while impaired and operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol level of over .08 in Halifax provincial court at a later date, according to Global News.
The charges have not been proven in court.
Blue Jackets vice president of communications Todd Shamrock told Global the club is aware of the situation.
“We are supportive of the actions taken by his junior club and will have no further comment at this time,” he said.
Dumais is the No. 3 prospect for the Columbus Blue Jackets, according to The Hockey News' Future Watch 2024 issue. Injuries have limited the 5-foot-8 winger to just 21 games this season, with 47 points recorded. But last year, Dumais was named the QMJHL’s MVP and selected to the CHL's first all-star team after scoring 140 points in 64 games.
In 193 career QMJHL appearances, Dumais has recorded 1.68 points per game — the fifth-highest mark of any skater who has played at least 50 games over the last decade. He was named the QMJHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player for the 2021-22 season.
The Montreal native represented Canada at the 2024 world juniors, recording one goal and two points in five games.
