ST. LOUIS - Blues captain Eric Brewer will undergo back surgery on Friday and will be out the team's lineup indefinitely, the club announced Thursday.
The St. Louis blue-liner will have surgery on a herniated disc.
The surgery - scheduled for Friday - will be performed by Dr. Timothy Kuklo, MD., JD., at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
The 29-year-old Brewer missed the previous two games. He has one goal, five assists and a minus-14 rating in 28 games.
Brewer was named captain midway through last season. He's in the third year of a four-year, US$17-million contract.
The Blues have lost two defencemen this week. Jay McKee is expected to miss between four and six weeks with a broken left ring finger sustained in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Flames.
