The Chicago Blackhawks have placed forward Corey Perry on unconditional waivers for the purposes of terminating his contract, the team announced on Tuesday.

"After an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable and in violation of both the terms of his Standard Player's Contract and the Blackhawks' internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments," the statement read, shared by The Athletic's Mark Lazerus. "As such, Corey Perry has been placed on unconditional waivers. In the event Mr. Perry clears waivers, we intend to terminate his contract effective immediately."

No details of the alleged conduct were made available. In a press conference later on Tuesday, Chicago GM Kyle Davidson said it does not involve any other player or player's family members on the team and that anyone who suggests otherwise is "wildly inaccurate" and "frankly, disgusting." He added that it's a workplace matter, and the players don't have any details about the matter.

Perry, 38, last played for the Blackhawks on Nov. 19 against the Buffalo Sabres. He was a healthy scratch on Nov. 22 against the Columbus Blue Jackets for what the team described as an "organizational decision" and hasn't played or practised with the team since. Davidson said he learned of the matter while the team was in Columbus.

Since joining Chicago via trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning on June 29, Perry played in 16 games for the team, recording four goals, five assists and nine points while averaging 14:39 in ice time per game.

Throughout his 19 seasons in the NHL, Perry has played 1,273 regular-season games and recorded 421 goals and 471 assists for 892 points. The former 28th overall pick in 2003 won a Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, as well as a Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy and Hart Trophy in 2010-11.
