The Anaheim Ducks have added Scott Niedermayer to its front office as a special advisor to hockey operations.
Another former NHLer is joining the Ducks' front office.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Anaheim Ducks announced that they have hired Scott Niedermayer as the team's new special advisor to hockey operations, marking the first significant hire by Pat Verbeek since assuming the GM role last week.
Niedermayer had been serving as a special assignment coach for the Ducks prior to today's promotion, and will likely assist Verbeek in handling the Ducks' day-to-day duties from here on out.
“I’m really excited that Scott has taken on an enhanced role within our hockey operations staff,” Verbeek said in a statement.
“His winning culture and great hockey mind will help all of our players and staff moving forward.”
Niedermayer is, of course, known most for his lengthy and illustrious Hall of Fame career as one of the premier defensemen of his era. The Edmonton-native captained the Ducks to the first Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2007, earning the Conne Smythe for his efforts along with a first-team All-Star selection.
Prior to arriving in Anaheim, Niedermayer spent the bulk of his career in New Jersey, winning three Stanley Cups with the Devils, and a host of individual accolades including the Norris Trophy in 2004.
Niedermayer also helped Team Canada capture Olympic gold on home soil at the Vancouver Games in 2010, becoming the first player ever to have won a Stanley Cup, Olympic gold medal, World Championship, World Cup, Memorial Cup, and World Junior Championship.
Moving up to the front office, Niedermayer will now get a better view of the banner that displays his number 27 that hangs in the rafters of the Honda Centre, which the Ducks retired in February of 2019.
