I believe that the hockey fans in Calgary are some of the best. I do not make this statement easily based on the fact I am a die hard Canadiens fan living in Vancouver.
I was watching some of the action from the Olympic orientation camp and when the crowd started cheering ‘Louuuu’ ( for goalie Roberto Luongo) like they do in Vancouver, I thought to myself: ‘am I really hearing what I think?’
Living in Vancouver for the past 22 years, I have seen some fierce games between Vancouver and Calgary and the dislike they have built for each other over the years stands out when they play.
Since this mini-camp was for the Canadian Olympic Hockey team, I understand how we all stick together as a country, but to me Calgary went all out to welcome Luongo and make him feel at home.
