Carolina Hurricanes forward Max Pacioretty has been placed on injured reserve after tearing his Achilles.

Terrible news for one of the league's most respected veteran players.
The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Friday evening that forward Max Pacioretty has suffered a torn Achilles and has been placed on injured reserve after undergoing an MRI.
The injury occurred late in the third period of the Hurricanes' 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night. It was the same ailment that kept Pacioretty out of the lineup for the first half of the 2022-23 season. He scored three goals in five games for the Hurricanes after making his season debut on Jan. 5.
In total, Pacioretty has managed to play in just 92 regular season games since the 2020-21 season.
The 34-year-old was dealt to Carolina in July of 2022 by the Vegas Golden Knights and had previously racked up an impressive 19 goals and 37 points in 39 games during the 2021-22 season.
Pacioretty is currently in the final year of a four-year contract that pays him $7 million per season.
