NEW YORK, N.Y. - New York Islanders forward John Tavares has been fined US$2,500 by the NHL for slashing New Jersey forward Zach Parise in a game Friday afternoon.

The slash occurred at 3:51 of the second period. No penalty was assessed on the play.

The fine is the maximum amount allowed under the collective bargaining agreement between the NHL and the NHL Players' Association.
