    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Kris Newbury scored a tiebreaking game-winner with just over a minute to play as the Grand Rapids Griffins beat the Abbotsford Heat 5-3 Friday night in AHL action.

    Newbury scored at 18:41 on the power play to give the home team a 4-3 lead before Jan Mursak added an empty-netter.

    Evan McGrath, Mattias Ritola and Jeremy Williams also scored for Grand Rapids (2-4-0).

    Mikael Backlund, Jason Jaffray and J.D. Watt countered for Abbotsford.

    Leland Irving took the loss with a 33-save performance for the Heat (4-2-3).

    Daniel Larsson made 26 saves for the Griffins.
