OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators have rewarded Brian Elliott for his promising rookie season, signing the goaltender to a US$1.7-million, two-year contract.

Elliott will make $800,000 next season and $900,000 in 2010-11.

Elliott, 24, appeared in 31 games with the Senators last season, posting a 16-8-3 record with a 2.77 goals-against-average and a .902 save percentage.

He set a franchise record for a rookie goaltender when he won eight consecutive games from March 5 to March 21. Elliott recorded his first NHL shutout on March 29, making 20 saves in Ottawa's 3-0 win in Tampa.

The native of Newmarket, Ont., also appeared in 30 games with the AHL's Binghamton Senators, posting an 18-8-1 record with two shutouts, a 2.31 GAA and a .926 save percentage.
