SUNRISE, Fla. - The Florida Panthers have signed first-round draft pick Jonathan Huberdeau to an entry-level contract.

The team announced Monday that they had signed the 18-year-old forward, who was selected third overall in last summer's draft.

The Quebec native played in five of the team's pre-season games, scoring a team-high three goals. Huberdeau will play this season for the Saint John Sea Dogs in the QMJHL, as the Panthers hope he will add some muscle to his thin six-foot-one 171-pound frame.

He scored 43 goals and added 62 assists in 67 games last season for the Memorial Cup champion Sea Dogs.
