    PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Janne Pesonen and defenceman Ben Lovejoy to one-year contracts on Monday.

    Pesonen, of Suomussalmi, Finland, had 34 goals and 44 assists with Oulu Karpat to lead the Finnish Elite League last season. The 26-year-old helped lead Karpat to its fifth league championship with seven goals and nine assists during the post-season.

    He was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

    Lovejoy signed to a one-year entry-level contract with the Penguins. The Canaan, N.H., native played last season in 72 games for the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, who acquired him as a free agent on June 14, 2007. He had two goals and 18 assists.
