Anaheim seemed to have more jump out of the gate Wednesday, putting together a dangerous three-on-two rush 32 seconds in. The Ducks went on to dominate the first half of the period, outshooting the Senators 10-1 at one point.
Ottawa wanted to come out with a more physical presence after the Ducks outhit the Senators in Game 1. The Senators seemed to match Anaheim's physical play early on, but it almost backfired after Mike Comrie and Anton Volchenkov were called for boarding penalties. The Ducks had some good chances during the power plays, but Emery was outstanding on both.
After recording no shots on their first power play, the Senators shifted the momentum when they were awarded a lengthy 5-on-3. The Senators had five shots and several good opportunities during the two-man advantage, but they couldn't beat the desperate play of J.S. Giguere and his defencemen.
Ottawa is trying to avoid going back to Scotiabank Place down 2-0 in the best-of-seven series. Travis Moen led Anaheim to a 3-2 a win in Monday's series opener with his tiebreaking goal in the third period.
