Rangers Add Veteran Backup Jaroslav Halak on One-Year Deal

The New York Rangers have signed goaltender Jaroslav Halak to a one-year deal worth $1.55 million.

Halak had a bit of a down year with the Vancouver Canucks, posting a 4-7-2 record in 17 games. Before that, Halak spent three years with the Bruins, becoming one of the best backups in the NHL.

With the Rangers, Halak should give the team some confidence when Igor Shesterkin isn't in net because, for the most part, Halak is still viewed as a decent backup. He's also familiar with the Rangers as the former starter of the New York Islanders, where he had a career-high 38 wins in 2014-15.
