OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators signed president and chief executive officer Roy Mlakar to a one-year contract extension Thursday.

Terms were not released for the extension, which was announced immediately following the Senators' 5-4 victory over the Florida Panthers.

"Roy has been an important part of the Senators for over a decade," team owner Eugene Melnyk said in a statement. "He remains deeply committed to our organization and I'm looking forward to continuing to work closely with him in managing the club and our various community initiatives."

Mlakar is in his 12th season as president of the Senators.

"It's an honour and pleasure to work with Mr. Melnyk and to continue the great contributions that we, as Hockey Country, have made to our community," Mlakar said in a statement. "Our mission continues to be to bring the Stanley Cup back to Ottawa for our fans and Mr. Melnyk, and to make our city stronger."
